“I give thanks to God and Global Disciples,” Chetan reported. “Since we started our leadership training in 2011, we’ve trained 675 leaders, pastors, and church planters.”

Chetan directs leadership training and discipleship-mission training near his home in Nepal.

He’s seen tremendous growth as they reach out and share the Good News of Jesus.

Through the discipleship-mission training, he’s trained 6 groups of disciple-makers, averaging about 15 participants per group, and so far, they’ve planted 32 churches in nine different areas of Nepal.

The leadership program has multiplied too – planting another 27 churches.

Chetan said, “In our district, there are one hundred fifty churches; our vision is to have a church in every village. In one place we preached, 11 people came to Christ.

Another group wanted to have a church there so we gladly handed the new believers over to them. In another village, 40 people believed. It’s very far from our base and so the follow-up was going to be difficult. But a nearby church offered to help and they are now looking after these believers.”

But it’s not been easy. Chetan reflected on the challenges they face. “When one person believes, there is persecution,” he said, “When one family believes, there’s opposition. At one place we planted a church, and a local police officer gave us land on a lease to establish a church. Our prayer is to purchase the plot. But the community is circulating a petition to keep us from building a church there.”

At times, those participating in the training were difficult to deal with, Chetan says, “With spiritual training, we must humble ourselves and serve. We spent much of our time in prayer. I have 11 prayer warriors who prayed for 72 hours, and God blessed and worked in this area. The Holy Spirit has helped us develop workers for the ministry.”

With prayer, persistence, and a God-given vision to reach those still waiting for the Gospel, Chetan and those he serves are seeing the Lord do great things in their area of Nepal.

Follow Dawit, a young disciple-maker in Ethiopia, with a heart for sharing the Gospel. Learn how to follow the Holy Spirit in all you do.Dawit is a young man in Ethiopia with a heart for sharing the Gospel with people who need to hear it. Global Disciples trained him through our partner programme. When it came time to do the outreach portion of the training, Dawit prayed about where he should go. The Holy Spirit directed him to a small village where most of the people are Muslims.

Soon after he arrived, Dawit met Ahmad, another young man and a dedicated follower of Islam. As they talked, the Holy Spirit was working in Ahmad’s heart. He received Jesus as his personal Savior.

Overjoyed with his new life, Ahmad went home to his family and shared the news. But his father refused to let him in the house. His brothers beat him and kicked him. Every time he tried to talk with them, his family would abuse him, and they even burned his Bible!

Ahmad went back to his new friend Dawit for help, and soon found a place with live with a family who were disciples of Jesus. He stayed with them as he was being discipled and preparing for baptism.

However, the Holy Spirit was still at work on his behalf. One day, a messenger came to tell Ahmad that his parents and siblings were sick—they wanted him, Ahmad to come and pray for them. He and Dawit went and prayed, and soon his family members were restored to health!

On the day of his baptism, Ahmad’s parents, brothers, and sisters came to watch. They listened to the Gospel, they heard his testimony, and by the end of the day, Ahmad’s entire family—all 16 people—had received Jesus as their Savior too!

Today, Ahmad boldly preaches the Good News of Jesus as Savior! And Dawit continues to follow the Holy Spirit’s guidance as he nurtures the growing church in this village.

Praise God for the way He leads his people and draws others into new life in Christ!

As Global Disciples, we want to see people around the world have the opportunity to choose and follow Jesus Christ. So we get excited when local churches in other countries catch the vision for reaching those still without the Gospel in their own region.

Cho is a church leader in Myanmar—or Burma—who shares our vision. His church is focused on reaching the Buddhist population in a developing city close to them.

“Our hearts were touched by the Holy Spirit,” Cho reported, “and our vision is to reach these people. Their spiritual eyes are blind and they live in a city that has a very dark spirit.”

With the help of Global Disciples, Cho has started a discipleship-mission training program. During the training, he saw the Holy Spirit work in the lives of those who participated. They found their spiritual lives transformed and renewed. Cho said, “They committed their whole lives to Jesus, to share the Good News in least-reached areas.”

For their outreach, Cho and these young disciple-makers went to the city they were concerned about. They shared the Gospel in the local market and the Buddhist temple. He reported, “We talked to families, spoke with women and children, and taught them songs and Bible stories.”

Some people objected, including the local chief. Cho said, “They called us into their office and warned us not to preach anymore. But we went out with our group and kept sharing the Gospel!”

As a result, two new churches were planted and 17 new believers were added. Cho was also rejoicing, saying “This has transformed our church people—they now value the spiritual lives of unreached people, and they are eager and committed to reaching them with the Good News of Jesus.”

Catching the vision, training and sending out workers for the spiritual harvest, and then multiplying new followers of Jesus Christ. That’s exactly what we want to see as Global Disciples!

Is it okay to complain to God about the injustices in society?

One of the most solemn prayers of triumph is made by Habakkuk when he complained about the injustices in society. After complaining about the worldly trials and tribulations, he ends his prayer with professed confidence in God. In fact, He acknowledges that there is no greater power than God.

But thanks be to God, who in Christ always leads us in triumphal procession, and through us spreads the fragrance of the knowledge of him everywhere. – 2 Corinthians 2:14

He disarmed the rulers and authorities and put them to open shame, by triumphing over them in him. – Colossians 2:15

The Romans gave a military procession of triumph to a conqueror. One qualification was that the victory put a complete end to the war with no enemies remaining. In the procession the conqueror would ride in a chariot pulled with four horses. Consequently, all the temples was covered with flowers and incense was lit on all the altars. The city greeted the victor with a cloud of aroma.

In the same way, the victory of Jesus at the cross was complete. All enemies including Satan, sin, and death were defeated. We pray as Jesus taught us that His will would be done on earth just as in heaven. The victory is complete in heaven and now we walk and pray in that understanding. We are the trophies of His victory. Our lives and prayers continually go forth as a cloud of sweet-smelling aroma to Jesus and a stench to Satan.

This dream is a testimony to the mission of Global Disciples. In fact, we walk by faith to bring the gospel to God’s people and give them the good news that the battle for their salvation has already been won.

The Bible reveals to us the story of the victory of God. Throughout its pages, we read of the ongoing work to defeat the forces of evil. Nowhere in the Bible does evil have the final victory. Hebrews 11 reminds us that even those who have lost their lives because of faith in God do not, in the end, suffer defeat. They experience glorious victory in the life to come. 

Whenever you pray, remind yourself that you are praying to Jesus who has completely destroyed the work of the enemy. The victory ALREADY belongs to us!

Pray with confidence through faith and belief in our salvation and that no evil will prevail against us . “For every child of God defeats this evil world, and we achieve this victory through our faith. And who can win this battle against the world? Only those who believe that Jesus is the Son of God”  –   1 John 5:4-5     

Pray with confidence through worshiping and glorifying His name. By doing this we are sharing God’s victory and glory with all the nations– “Because of our faith, Christ has brought us into this place of undeserved privilege where we now stand, and we confidently and joyfully look forward to SHARING God’s glory” – Romans 5:2

As a Christians, we cannot let worldly trials and tribulations make us feel defeated.

We need to walk with bold confidence and endure life’s challenges and ordeals in our stride. It pales in comparison to the victory we have in Christ.

Encourage family, friends, co-worker to remember that God is ultimately in control, we just need to walk in his Glory. God’s ways are not our ways, yet He can be trusted, even when things seem out of control. God loves us and only wants the best for us. It is NOT our job to understand what God is doing. It is our job to trust Him and have the confidence that the battle is won.

Let’s come together in agreement and stand on the powerful Word of God. As we pray let’s remember that we are the trophies of His victory. Our lives and prayers continually go forth as a cloud of sweet-smelling aroma to Jesus and a stench to Satan and his demons. 

When we pray, we must pray with great confidence and expectation, with the confidence that Jesus has defeated the devil’s works and God’s power is supreme. Let us be bold to ask for change, for intervention, for healing, because we know there is absolute power in prayer. Nothing is impossible for our mighty God. He has won the battle. Amen.

When we give thanks, praise, and worship, let us do so with the knowledge of WHO we are giving our thanks, praise, and worship to – the Creator of Heaven and Earth, God Almighty, let us feel the power of our words in honoring His name.

Pray with people to encourage them, in their everyday lives, to walk with confidence as they claim victory of the battle against good and evil. God has already won the battle for us – we are victorious in His name. We must pray and walk by faith that God will use us to bring His people running toward Him, just like in the dream from 20 years ago.

Let us consider the prayer of triumph that Habakkuk sang before the Lord where he acknowledges the trials and tribulations of the world yet he continues to rejoice in his salvation – “Even though the fig trees are all destroyed, and there is neither blossom left nor fruit; though the olive crops all fail, and the fields lie barren; even if the flocks die in the fields and the cattle barns are empty, yet I will rejoice in the Lord; I will be happy in the God of my salvation” (Habakkuk 3:1).

I invite you all to take their trials and tribulations to the Lord in prayer and thank Him that the battle has been fought on our behalf and the victory belongs to us, His beloved children.

As we hear the Good News stories about how God is at work, we can never underestimate Gods choice to accomplish His mission.

Meet Kiran. Kiran works in Nepal. In fact, part of his job is to train and mentor the leaders who direct discipleship-mission training programs.

He went to visit a church that wanted to start a training. He was surprised to see who they had chosen as a director. Kiran said, “I saw a young man—only 22 years old—and I was disappointed. I expected someone mature, like the pastor!”

This young man comes from a group of 35 churches and they decided he was the man for the job!

Since the young man started their training program, he’s trained five groups of disciple-makers—that’s about 75 people! And they’ve planted 8 churches, with between 60 to 90 members.

During one training, some people in the village heard about it and brought a paralyzed woman to them for prayer. When their prayers were answered, the woman was healed. Consequently, her family accepted Christ and became hosts for one of the new churches!

Evidently, God was not worried about the age of this young leader, even if Kiran was!

Kiran also told of a woman who came for small business training to provide support as she helped to plant a church. However, she was shy and felt awkward talking to people in Nepali, which was her second language. But her tailoring business required her to talk to people!

A year later, Kiran said, “I was amazed to hear she had started two new fellowships with about 16 to 18 people attending. And 13 are getting ready for baptism!”

You know, it doesn’t matter if you think you’re too young, too old, too shy, or afraid…never underestimate what God can do with you! Who knows what He may empower you to accomplish? And who you may surprise along the way.

THE SINGLE MOST IMPORTANT THING we can do as leaders is to provide clarity for the people we lead. We must be absolutely clear about why we are doing what we do, what is important to our organization, and how we will go about accomplishing our mission. This clarity will allow us to see even greater results from our ministry activities. And it will lead to a healthier organization. God has accomplished phenomenal things through Global Disciples in the last 27-plus years.

We are often reminded of the words of the prophet Isaiah. “Lord, you establish peace for us; all that we have accomplished you have done for us” (Isaiah 26:12).

It’s remarkable to see what God has done through the clusters of churches we equip to train and send out their workers to least-reached areas. Since 2008 we have seen more than 27,000 new churches planted and over 600,100 new believers come to faith in Jesus Christ, disciples, and involved in new fellowships—most of which are located in Gospel-deprived areas.

By God’s grace, the truth of His Word, and the power of the Holy Spirit, more has been accomplished than we imagined possible. In all this we want God to receive all the glory and credit He deserves!

As Global Disciples moves forward, we have developed the Global Disciples Arena which outlines the four areas where total clarity is essential:

       1. Our Mission: Why we do what we do and what we are accomplishing by God’s grace.

       2. Our Core Values: Who we are and our pattern of relating. This is the ethos or DNA we need to accomplish our mission.

       3. Our Guiding Principles: How we are committed to operating and carrying out our mission.

       4. Our Central Focus: What we need to be doing day in and day out to accomplish our mission.

When we have clarity in these areas, our Global Disciples team is empowered to make decisions aligned with our core convictions. In the process, it also provides a high level of accountability for everyone on our team. As leaders, we want clarity so that healthy and productive people know how to make their best contribution within this organization.

The Global Disciples arena is a simple tool we are introducing here. It will allow for better alignment around our ministry philosophy and approach. We believe that by clearly defining our arena of ministry, it will:

Empower our personnel to make good decisions,

Provide accountability among our team members,

Allow us to better assess alignment and effectiveness,

Make it easier for people to understand Global Disciples,

Help recruit and equip people who share our convictions.

 We also want to define our training model or strategy. Let’s call this our Global Disciples Approach.

We seek to provide a clear picture of the three phases of training—discipleship-mission, small business development, and leadership—working cohesively together to accomplish our mission.

May we be faithful in the mission to which we have been called until “the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord as the waters cover the sea” (Habakkuk 2:14).

People groups in the southern regions of the DRC are largely unreached with the Gospel. Global Disciples Canada is helping bring light to darkness.

They practice sorcery and fetishism, seeking blessing from spirits and worshiping things they believe have magical powers. Additionally, diamond mining and its supporting business have created a boomtown in the region.

However, one of the few believers from this area, attended Global Disciples training in another city in DRC. Luc was quick to embrace the vision of making disciples among least-reached people. He was commissioned to return home as a mission worker once he was equipped to train others

Over the years, many mission workers and church planters have come to this region. But the spiritual opposition from the sorcerers and the other practices has often proved too much and they give up. With diamond mining, there are added temptations for pastors and church leaders. The temptation always exists to abandon their efforts and “follow the money” into mining and business.

So Luc faced a significant challenge on his return home. However, God honored his efforts. And Luc is making a difference among his people.

He started a discipleship-mission training program, and he led outreach to communities around the region. The disciple-makers he sends out have planted and multiplied churches in DRC and over the border in Angola. He’s equipping elders and deacons to lead these new churches. And some local leaders are even seeking out Luc for leadership training!

What a joy to see God bringing new life and transformation to least-reached people in Central Africa!

We also need to pray for Luc, the disciple-makers, and the church planters he’s training. We pray that the Holy Spirit will protect them from the temptations around them. That they will be faithful to His calling to reach people with the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

We are all called to be disciples of Jesus Christ who live our lives fully for His glory, ordering our priorities around the global mission of Christ no matter where we are called to live or what our vocation might be.  

As disciples, we have joined a new order of life—a life of discipline and accountability that can transform us into the image of Christ (Romans 8:29; 12:2). But before we start making disciples, we must be sure that we are disciples of Jesus who are growing in our relationship with God (Colossians 2:6-7). All disciples are meant to live the life that Jesus displayed for them.

So how can we grow as disciples?  

Knowing Jesus Christ and making Him known is the responsibility of every disciple, and it must be the top priority in life. Nothing compares to knowing Him as our Savior, Redeemer, and Lord of our life. For the sake of knowing Christ, Paul not only considered everything to be lost—he actually lost all things. Because of his allegiance to Christ, he lost everything he had. He considered any possessions or worldly pleasures as “rubbish” or garbage so that he could gain Christ. Even if Paul knew Christ personally and intimately, it is clear that he wanted to know Him more. (Philippians 3:12-14; John 14)  

Mary of Bethany possessed a pint of expensive perfume, but she thought nothing of pouring it on Jesus’ feet as an expression of her love for him (John 12:2-3). She not only released a valuable possession, but she also did so eagerly in order to embrace something much more valuable—the love of Christ. This great love caused her to express her lavish love in return.  

It is the same for those of us who experience the love of Jesus. Even after Jesus died, Mary was the only one at the tomb looking for Him while others were hiding (John 20:11-18). The problem of many of the early New Testament churches and the churches of today is the tendency to pursue principles of living rather than intimacy with Him (Galatians 1:6-10; 3:1-6; Revelation 2:2-5).  

Do we know why many people start well and fail to finish well in their faith journey as disciples? The reason is that they started their life by enjoying intimacy with Christ, but later they began to learn principles of morality and they began to rely more on that than on their intimacy with Christ. That is the reason why many people are not finishing well even if they started well.  Nothing satisfies the heart like intimacy with Christ.  

For I am convinced that neither money nor possessions nor marriage nor health nor success nor recognition nor affirmation nor anything else one might consider valuable is able to be compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ Jesus as our Lord. (Romans 8:38-39) 

The more we get to know Him, the greater the opportunity for His to influence us. As we grow in knowing Him, we begin to see as God sees. 

We grow in our relationship with God when we are able to see as He sees.  Occasionally, it is good to reflect on how God might be looking at people, things, or situations.  How does God see this thing I’m so proud of?  How does God see my relationship with Him and others? And how does God see the way I am doing things? What does God see when He looks at us and others?   

One of the most vivid examples of seeing as God sees is found in Isaiah 6:5. When we start to see as He sees, we will not be the same. Whatever is evil before Him will be evil to us as well. It is clear that the more we see ourselves and the world around us the way God sees, the more we see God at work in our lives and in the lives of those around us.  

It is very important to learn to see as God sees (1 Samuel 16:7). His view is complete and perfect (Hebrews 4:13; 1 Corinthians 12:15-16; 12:21). When Samuel saw Jesse’s eldest son Eliab, he assumed he would be the one God would anoint as king. But the Lord told Samuel he was not the one. He said, “Do not look at his appearance or at the height of his stature, because I have refused him. For the LORD does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart” (Numbers 13:28-33; 2 Kings 6:15-17). 

Love first 

In John 15:12, Jesus says, “This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you” (emphasis added). What does He mean when He says, “As I have loved you?” Simply, it is God’s self-sacrificing love He gives to us. Our love for Christ flows from His love for us because He first loved us and gave His life for us (John 15:13). Jesus told us that we can abide in God’s love if we keep His commandments. We are to live just as Jesus lived.  

Obedience next 

There is always joy in doing the right thing. Knowing Christ will increase our love for Him. We obey simply because we love Him (John 14:15, 23-24; John 15: 9-10). When God asks us to do something, then we must obey Him; and the more we love Him, the more we want to obey Him; and the more we obey Him, the more we abide in Him and bear more fruit. A servant does what his master orders, but a friend does the will of his friend. We know the will of the Father, and we obey because it is His will. 

In order to be a good friend of Jesus, we need to learn to know Him and know what He likes and dislikes. Webster defines “friend” as “A person whom one knows, likes, and trusts; one with whom one is allied in a struggle or cause; a comrade.” Webster’s definition also says that a friend is one who holds another in high esteem, respect, and affection. A friend is one whose happiness and prosperity you desire to promote.   

The disciples of Jesus were hard to befriend. But Jesus considered them to be friends, and He opened up His life and shared everything He knew with them. The same is true with us. No matter who we are, what we have done or not done, Jesus still calls us “friend.” It is our choice to be the friend of Jesus Christ or the friend of this world (James 4:4). Being a friend of Jesus involves fellowship with Him. Friends like to spend time together; if we want to be a true friend, we must spend time with our friends. Because good friendship requires spending time together and sharing thoughts and ideas, hopes and dreams, we must spend time with God through prayer and the study of His Word.   

Jesus is the best friend that anyone could ever have. He wants to have a personal relationship with all people around the world. He sent us into the world to let others know that they can be His friends. We were sent, not to compete with one another, but to love one another so the world will know Him through our love (John 13:34-35). If we truly have a love for each other, and have one heart and one attitude, then it is easy for us to bring others to friendship with Jesus.  

As disciples, we should realize that we have been sent by Christ as He Himself was sent by His Father to preach the Gospel and make disciples. If we do this in our lives and through our deeds, at the end of our earthly ministries we will say, “We glorified you on earth by finishing the work you gave us to do.” 

As we get to know Him more, our love for Him increases; as our love for Him increases, our obedience to Him grows; when we obey Him, we are abiding in Him and that will bring forth fruit; when we are bringing forth fruit, we are fulfilling life’s purpose and glorifying God.

Bibek was raised in a strong orthodox Hindu family. Consequently, his parents were devoted to their Hindu gods and goddesses. Discontent with his parent’s worship, Bibek sought the counsel of a Christian man in his village. After purchasing a Bible and attending Christian church services, Bibek felt compelled by the love of Jesus, and confessed his sins. He kept his new faith a secret from his family for some time. But, when they learned that he was a follower of Jesus Christ, they were very disappointed. Although he has tried to explain Jesus is the only way to heaven, his family continues to practice Hinduism.

Sajit attended a discipleship training where he accepted the Lord as his Savior and began worshipping Jesus Christ. Following the training, he returned to his home, where he would be the only believer. His father was the head Buddhist priest in their community. In fact, Sajit was hated by not only his family, but his entire village. False rumors spread quickly, and people on the street would spit on Sajit as he passed by. Six months later, he attended a leadership training, and found a job in the crusade against human trafficking. Through this position, the Lord provided Sajit with a positive reputation, and relationships among law enforcement officials in his village. As a result of the Lord’s provision, he has been able to share the Gospel with the community that persecuted him, and bring many of them to Christ.

The obedience of Bibek and Sajit is inspiring, as they remain faithful to Jesus Christ despite persecution from their families. Their faith has developed an intimate relationship with Jesus Christ, and the courage to disciple in the wake of persecution.
