“There is no greater joy than seeing a person get saved by grace through faith in Christ,” Li said.

Li leads a discipleship-mission training program in Myanmar and they’re seeing fruitful mission outreach in some of the most remote villages.

Li reported on their outreach efforts, sharing the Gospel of Jesus person to person, and house to house in rural communities. He said, “The local people are receptive and in one village, about a hundred accepted Jesus as their personal Savior and Lord.”

He also talked with great excitement about Wai!

Wai is a young woman, well-educated, a mom with a toddler daughter, and one of the disciple-makers he trained. She had a good job all lined up in the city when some difficulties kept her from taking it.

A few days later, Li’s wife called Wai and invited her to participate in the discipleship training. Wai responded quickly—it was just what she knew God wanted her to do!

God had already put a vision in her heart to reach local people with the Gospel of Christ. So she packed up her small daughter and traveled to the training

As Wai took part in the training and outreach, it was clear that God had clearly given her this vision. Wai is passionate about making Christ-like disciples, and developing women leaders, and helping families thrive. She is actively serving as an indigenous missionary church planter.

In fact, as people came to faith in Christ and a new fellowship was started, Wai stayed to give leadership!

Thanks to Wai, Li, and the rest of the disciple-makers, hundreds of people in these remote villages have had the opportunity to hear the Gospel of Jesus for the first time.

Li said it, “God is at work. We do our part, and God is doing His. Mission opportunities are everywhere. And Christ’s love compels us, so that we are committed to channel every opportunity into this mission work.”

But he is always quick to tell you, “We have a vision to plant 10 thousand churches in our region.”

Pastor Rafey explained when he shared his story with other leaders recently: “We had three problems which Global Disciples helped us with. First, we started with the need to equip church planters. I could not send them all to Bible school. When we started the discipleship- mission training, it helped us so much.”

The second problem was how to support these new church planters. Pastor Rafey went on, “Then we added Global’s small business training and Global has trained many. And we have continued to train even more. I raised funds for over 200 church planters to have a grant to start their business. They are doing very well.”

And finally, Pastor Rafey continued “I had a problem of how to strengthen the church leaders. And found that Global Disciples offers leadership training. We have used this and it has helped us so much. I don’t have any words to express my thanks for the way these trainings have helped us.”

One Indian Hindu man’s choice to follow Jesus led to others to His “living water”. Discover what happened next. Nagu is a young farmer in rural India, born and brought up as a Hindu.

One day, he met several followers of Christ, sent out from a Global Disciples partner program to share the Gospel.

Nagu’s heart was touched.He quickly accepted Jesus Christ as His Savior.

He then invited the disciple-makers to stay in his home while they continued their outreach in the area.

Nagu’s choice to follow Jesus and host these Christians was not popular with his neighbors. They began persecuting and harassing him. They kept him from coming into the village or selling his farm produce at the market. He was forced to take it some distance to another town to sell.

Even more devastating, his access to the village water was cut off. He couldn’t get water to drink, wash, and more importantly, water his crops. But Nagu refused to give up on his faith in Jesus.

Nagu shared this need with the young people who had first told him about Jesus and they agreed to pray that God would provide a solution to his need.

What Nagu needed was a well.

He had no money to hire a well-digging company or rent any equipment to do it himself. He would have to dig by hand. In the hard ground in his area, it’s usually 400-500 feet down before one strikes water.

But Nagu started digging. He and his family prayed and dug. The disciple-makers prayed too.

At about 8 feet, Nagu hit water!

God miraculously answered his prayer. Impossible gave way to Gods miraculous power!

The risks are still high, however. Nagu knows that being baptized as a follower of Jesus puts his life on the line but he’s also seen God work powerfully on behalf of those who call on Him.

Now he has a wonderful testimony to share with others still waiting to hear the Good News!

“If you want to do ministry, you cannot do other work! If you want to preach or evangelize, you must only do that! Not business too.”

Over and over, Saji heard this message from his pastor who, like many church leaders in India, believed that business and ministry don’t mix. You can’t do both the “sacred” and the “secular”.

But Saji struggled with this.

He was in his late 20s and had trained as an engineer.

God had given him a heart to share the Gospel with least-reached people. His family didn’t have money; his father was only a day laborer and they lived in poverty. His education had given him better job opportunities but the call to ministry left him feeling conflicted.

“One of my pastors said if I wanted to do ministry, I must leave everything else,” Saji said. So he resigned to minister through his church, but he had no means of support. He told his family nothing about his struggles because he feared his choice would offend them. “I didn’t have a single rupee for my personal use,” he said. “I relied on my friends to feed me and shelter me.”

One day, he was invited to a home group. There he met a young man who invited Saji to a small business training started with the help of Global Disciples.

“The very next month, I attended the small business training,” Saji reported. “It made me strong and gave me the courage to move forward. I learned many things about work and ministry, about Paul’s ministry and Peter’s ministry. I decided I could do any work at the same time as God’s work!”

Saji quickly caught on that you can do both ministry and business! Life, ministry, and work or business can be integrated for the glory of God and to reach others with the Good News.

Saji started a cell phone servicing business and used it to begin sharing the Gospel in a community where most people had little understanding of Jesus Christ. Within a year, God gave him success in both ministry and business.

“We now have 25 people worshipping every Sunday and an outreach to children. We have started three cell groups in this village. And we recently built a small worship center.”

Saji was able to marry since he now had a means of support. His relationship with his family was restored; they are happy to see how God led and provided for him. Saji said, “I am very happy with my work and ministry. I thank God for sending Global Disciples because they trained me and encouraged me.”

Danbir knows about facing hurdles and obstacles, he leads a discipleship-mission training in Nepal.

He and the disciple-makers he trained ran into a significant need when they went to share the Gospel in a village—and discovered there was no water! No water for anyone in the community to drink, to wash, to water fields. And his team did not carry any water with them.

God is always at work, but He doesn’t guarantee that our part in His work will run smoothly and that everybody gets along.

Difficulties show up when, like Danbir, we face needs we can’t meet, experience opposition to our mission, or when we’re in conflict with those around us. But as whole-hearted disciples, we learn to trust God to work despite these hurdles. As a result, we can see a powerful testimony and rich spiritual fruit in our lives.

When Danbir was faced with this need for water, he recognized he had to trust God. As a whole-hearted disciple of Jesus, he gathered his team to fast and pray. When the Lord miraculously provided water for the village, it became a powerful testimony. Danbir reported, “There are now 20 new believers preparing for baptism!”

The hurdles we face can also stem from our own human nature as we relate to and serve one another. Rushil, another Nepali director, shared that during his initial training, conflict developed between students from two different ethnic groups. Longstanding prejudices and cultural traits fueled the tensions and interfered with learning to be a whole-hearted disciple of Jesus.

Then a local pastor taught on the session on Right Relationships. Rushil said, “Through that, the lives of the participants were touched by the Lord. They confessed their guilt and sought reconciliation among themselves. In that way, the Lord brought transformation to their lives.” They were knit together in the Spirit and experienced His power as they went on to share the Good News among least-reached people!

As we serve the Lord and share the Gospel, we won’t experience smooth sailing. But God is faithful to His promises and His people, and able to move the mountains of difficulty to fulfill His mission through each of us.

When Jesus sent His disciples out on their first assignment, He gave them power and authority (Luke 9:1-6).

He still does, as we see so often in testimonies from the discipleship-mission training programs.

A director in West Bengal, India, reported, “We had 18 who took the training and we were filled with the power of God. We went to 30 villages with the Gospel, visited many homes and shared the Gospel with many people. The Lord did His work.”

He recounts this demonstration of God’s power. After preaching in one village, several men asked to speak with the team. They took them to the home of a 13-year old boy who’d never been able to feed himself. He survived because others spoon-fed him.

The church planters were asked to pray for the boy, and they encouraged the men to join them, praying and fasting for three days. God healed the boy and he was soon in school. As a result, “when we go to the school, the teachers allow us to share the Word. Five families came to Christ in that village and we baptized them.”

Other recent reports include children and students delivered from demons, healing from illness for which doctors had no answer, and always God’s mighty hand opening the door to draw people to Himself.

A director from North East India said of their training, “For the first few days the participants were not very serious… but as we taught, the Holy Spirit started moving and preparing their hearts. Some were convicted, repented of their sins and recommitted their lives to God. Towards the end, it was so powerful the way God was moving. They didn’t want to leave; they wanted to stay and learn more.”

As it was for Jesus’ first disciples, this power begins in our relationship with Him and the Holy Spirit’s presence.

Peter is a big, burly man but tears filled his eyes as he told his story. He had been an angry, violent alcoholic and his parents-in-law had taken his wife and daughter away, fearful of what he might do to them. His life was in ruins.

Then Peter met a disciple of Jesus Christ. He discovered that Jesus could change his life in ways that his Hindu gods could not.

His family was reconciled and Peter found a fullness of life in Christ that he never imagined possible. His new church asked him to take the discipleship–mission training they had developed with Global Disciples and then commissioned him to plant a church in an unreached village.

Peter needed a way to support his family, so he also took the Small Business Development training developed by his church with the help of Global Disciples. When asked the question, “What’s in your hand?” Peter thought back to his boyhood experiences on a farm.

To support himself as a church planter and have an identity that made sense to the people in the village to which he was going, Peter developed a business plan for pesticide spraying. The guidance and support he received through his church from Global Disciples were enough to get a small loan and purchase a backpack sprayer with a small gasoline motor.

In the last several years, Peter has planted five churches in surrounding villages, building relationships through his business. He has been able to support his family and earned enough money to buy a small field to raise crops of his own. Now his face glows with delight.

Recently Peter was able to buy a second backpack sprayer, but not expand his own business. He’s giving the new sprayer to another church planter who recently completed the Global Disciples training and is now going to make disciples and plant new churches in unreached areas.

“I give thanks to God and Global Disciples,” Chetan reported. “Since we started our leadership training in 2011, we’ve trained 675 leaders, pastors, and church planters.”

Chetan directs leadership training and discipleship-mission training near his home in Nepal.

He’s seen tremendous growth as they reach out and share the Good News of Jesus.

Through the discipleship-mission training, he’s trained 6 groups of disciple-makers, averaging about 15 participants per group, and so far, they’ve planted 32 churches in nine different areas of Nepal.

The leadership program has multiplied too – planting another 27 churches.

Chetan said, “In our district, there are one hundred fifty churches; our vision is to have a church in every village. In one place we preached, 11 people came to Christ.

Another group wanted to have a church there so we gladly handed the new believers over to them. In another village, 40 people believed. It’s very far from our base and so the follow-up was going to be difficult. But a nearby church offered to help and they are now looking after these believers.”

But it’s not been easy. Chetan reflected on the challenges they face. “When one person believes, there is persecution,” he said, “When one family believes, there’s opposition. At one place we planted a church, and a local police officer gave us land on a lease to establish a church. Our prayer is to purchase the plot. But the community is circulating a petition to keep us from building a church there.”

At times, those participating in the training were difficult to deal with, Chetan says, “With spiritual training, we must humble ourselves and serve. We spent much of our time in prayer. I have 11 prayer warriors who prayed for 72 hours, and God blessed and worked in this area. The Holy Spirit has helped us develop workers for the ministry.”

With prayer, persistence, and a God-given vision to reach those still waiting for the Gospel, Chetan and those he serves are seeing the Lord do great things in their area of Nepal.

As Global Disciples, we want to see people around the world have the opportunity to choose and follow Jesus Christ. So we get excited when local churches in other countries catch the vision for reaching those still without the Gospel in their own region.

Cho is a church leader in Myanmar—or Burma—who shares our vision. His church is focused on reaching the Buddhist population in a developing city close to them.

“Our hearts were touched by the Holy Spirit,” Cho reported, “and our vision is to reach these people. Their spiritual eyes are blind and they live in a city that has a very dark spirit.”

With the help of Global Disciples, Cho has started a discipleship-mission training program. During the training, he saw the Holy Spirit work in the lives of those who participated. They found their spiritual lives transformed and renewed. Cho said, “They committed their whole lives to Jesus, to share the Good News in least-reached areas.”

For their outreach, Cho and these young disciple-makers went to the city they were concerned about. They shared the Gospel in the local market and the Buddhist temple. He reported, “We talked to families, spoke with women and children, and taught them songs and Bible stories.”

Some people objected, including the local chief. Cho said, “They called us into their office and warned us not to preach anymore. But we went out with our group and kept sharing the Gospel!”

As a result, two new churches were planted and 17 new believers were added. Cho was also rejoicing, saying “This has transformed our church people—they now value the spiritual lives of unreached people, and they are eager and committed to reaching them with the Good News of Jesus.”

Catching the vision, training and sending out workers for the spiritual harvest, and then multiplying new followers of Jesus Christ. That’s exactly what we want to see as Global Disciples!

As we hear the Good News stories about how God is at work, we can never underestimate Gods choice to accomplish His mission.

Meet Kiran. Kiran works in Nepal. In fact, part of his job is to train and mentor the leaders who direct discipleship-mission training programs.

He went to visit a church that wanted to start a training. He was surprised to see who they had chosen as a director. Kiran said, “I saw a young man—only 22 years old—and I was disappointed. I expected someone mature, like the pastor!”

This young man comes from a group of 35 churches and they decided he was the man for the job!

Since the young man started their training program, he’s trained five groups of disciple-makers—that’s about 75 people! And they’ve planted 8 churches, with between 60 to 90 members.

During one training, some people in the village heard about it and brought a paralyzed woman to them for prayer. When their prayers were answered, the woman was healed. Consequently, her family accepted Christ and became hosts for one of the new churches!

Evidently, God was not worried about the age of this young leader, even if Kiran was!

Kiran also told of a woman who came for small business training to provide support as she helped to plant a church. However, she was shy and felt awkward talking to people in Nepali, which was her second language. But her tailoring business required her to talk to people!

A year later, Kiran said, “I was amazed to hear she had started two new fellowships with about 16 to 18 people attending. And 13 are getting ready for baptism!”

You know, it doesn’t matter if you think you’re too young, too old, too shy, or afraid…never underestimate what God can do with you! Who knows what He may empower you to accomplish? And who you may surprise along the way.
