With your help we are able to train leaders living near least-reached communities to multiply disciples.

Discover the power of intimacy and build a strong foundation for your walk with Christ through prayer, worship, and obedience.

“I have been searching for meaning all my life,” related Chesy, a director in training from Cameroon. “I went to seminary searching; I have been pastoring for years, still searching. God spoke to me during my time with Him after the teaching of intimacy with God.”

We often hear comments like these from the men and women in training as directors for discipleship-mission programs.

They have spent their lives following Christ, often in leadership positions in the church, but they have yet to experience true intimacy with God.

Teaching this core value has been the key to transforming many leaders who work alongside Global Disciples. Our trainers frequently hear that “we were looking for more teaching and knowledge to succeed in our ministry, but after we learned about intimacy with God, we found our life is like a house built on air without a foundation.”

The Power Of Intimacy With Jesus

They’re not alone. Many of us miss this foundational truth in our walk with God. We were created for a relationship with Christ by the Holy Spirit. We bring glory to God through worship, prayer, obedience, service, and fellowship.

Jesus practiced this regularly as he sought the Father in time alone in prayer, fasting, and meditation. During the director’s training, students see Jesus’ model and learn the hindrances to intimacy and the ways to overcome them.

With a new intimate connection to God, Chesy is now back home in Cameroon teaching the discipleship-mission training with students at the Apostolic Center of Missions and Discipleship.

A seed is only a small beginning, a little thing filled with potential life. Seed Funds are also small beginnings yet with the potential to affect great change. Through Global Disciples, Seed Funds for discipleship-mission programs provide resources for the Body of Christ to multiply new life in new places.

What grows out of our Seed Funds?

Let’s take a look at one report from Aloys, director of a training program in Burundi.

Seeing The Harvest In Burundi

He trained 25 students to be disciples of Jesus Christ who can disciple others, evangelize and plant churches.

As part of their training, the students were sent out in three teams for two months to evangelize to unreached people in provinces along the borders of Tanzania, Rwanda, and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

One team really put their back into it. They went to a community near the DRC and every morning went to work—digging ditches, making bricks, and picking up community “chores” the local authorities required people to do on Saturdays. Their willing work gave the team favor with the authorities and an open door to plant a church.

Missionary Team 2 took an 8-hour walk to reach their destination. No vehicles, not even motorcycles, can travel the roads to this community, still recovering from the impact of Rwanda’s war which ended in 2005. Some NGOs came for community development, but not the Church. Through teaching and evangelism, this team established a church in a month.

Seeing The Harvest And Small Business Training

The third team, near Tanzania, started three new fellowships— two among family groups, and one in a hospital. The local administration welcomed them when one of the team members demonstrated what he offered with a small business, thanks to his Small Business Development training.

Director Aloys reported, “My joy is that each team planted a church and we got a leader for every church from our [own] missionaries.” Twenty-five participants, two months, and five new fellowships of believers in communities previously with little Christian witness.

Never underestimate the power of a seed.

Serving others sets a Christ-like leader apart from those who lead by the model of the world. It’s not easy; our natural bent is to say “I’m in charge,” not to ask “How may I serve you?” Read Annes story of leading discipleship from the kitchen!

Anne is a Global Disciples Facilitator in Uganda who practices servant-leadership. For some time, she prayed about planting a church in a needy community.

Anne led an outreach team with 21 men, to go for several weeks of preaching and prayer, to lay the groundwork for a church. Anne organized intercessors to cover her team in prayer during ministry time. She set up rotations to handle the practical needs of the team, including meals.

Everything was in order and the Holy Spirit was clearly anointing them for this outreach.

Leading Discipleship From The Kitchen

When Anne and her team arrived at the host home, she went over arrangements with her hostess…and hit a snag. The woman refused to have the men in her kitchen. Instead of sharing the load with her team, the responsibility for feeding them now fell solely on Anne’s shoulders.

Anne wrestled with God over this. “I’m the leader,” she prayed. “You asked all this of me, but now I have to work in the kitchen instead.” The Lord’s response? “Anne, I need you to do this; to honor this woman’s authority in her own home.”

So Anne obeyed. She participated as much as she could in the outreach and preaching but spent most of her time preparing daily meals for 20-plus people—a laborious task, without pizza deliveries, take-out meals, or instant anything heated up in a microwave.

Anne Has a Great Response

Over several weeks, Anne’s team saw a great response to the preaching, prayer, and evangelism, and they established the nucleus of a new church. When they gathered to evaluate their experience, one comment came up immediately and was echoed by each person on the team. “Anne served us,” they said. “Even though she is the leader, she chose to serve.”

Through Anne’s example, these young leaders learned to live out leadership according to the model of Christ and to serve others in humble obedience.

Follow Dawit, a young disciple-maker in Ethiopia, with a heart for sharing the Gospel. Learn how to follow the Holy Spirit in all you do.Dawit is a young man in Ethiopia with a heart for sharing the Gospel with people who need to hear it. Global Disciples trained him through our partner programme. When it came time to do the outreach portion of the training, Dawit prayed about where he should go. The Holy Spirit directed him to a small village where most of the people are Muslims.

Dawit meets Ahmad

Soon after he arrived, Dawit met Ahmad, another young man and a dedicated follower of Islam. As they talked, the Holy Spirit was working in Ahmad’s heart. He received Jesus as his personal Savior.

Overjoyed with his new life, Ahmad went home to his family and shared the news. But his father refused to let him in the house. His brothers beat him and kicked him. Every time he tried to talk with them, his family would abuse him, and they even burned his Bible!

Ahmad went back to his new friend Dawit for help, and soon found a place with live with a family who were disciples of Jesus. He stayed with them as he was being discipled and preparing for baptism.

Following The Holy Spirit

However, the Holy Spirit was still at work on his behalf. One day, a messenger came to tell Ahmad that his parents and siblings were sick—they wanted him, Ahmad to come and pray for them. He and Dawit went and prayed, and soon his family members were restored to health!

On the day of his baptism, Ahmad’s parents, brothers, and sisters came to watch. They listened to the Gospel, they heard his testimony, and by the end of the day, Ahmad’s entire family—all 16 people—had received Jesus as their Savior too!

Today, Ahmad boldly preaches the Good News of Jesus as Savior! And Dawit continues to follow the Holy Spirit’s guidance as he nurtures the growing church in this village.

Praise God for the way He leads his people and draws others into new life in Christ!

People groups in the southern regions of the DRC are largely unreached with the Gospel. Global Disciples Canada is helping bring light to darkness.

They practice sorcery and fetishism, seeking blessing from spirits and worshiping things they believe have magical powers. Additionally, diamond mining and its supporting business have created a boomtown in the region.

However, one of the few believers from this area, attended Global Disciples training in another city in DRC. Luc was quick to embrace the vision of making disciples among least-reached people. He was commissioned to return home as a mission worker once he was equipped to train others

Bringing Light To Darkness

Over the years, many mission workers and church planters have come to this region. But the spiritual opposition from the sorcerers and the other practices has often proved too much and they give up. With diamond mining, there are added temptations for pastors and church leaders. The temptation always exists to abandon their efforts and “follow the money” into mining and business.

So Luc faced a significant challenge on his return home. However, God honored his efforts. And Luc is making a difference among his people.

He started a discipleship-mission training program, and he led outreach to communities around the region. The disciple-makers he sends out have planted and multiplied churches in DRC and over the border in Angola. He’s equipping elders and deacons to lead these new churches. And some local leaders are even seeking out Luc for leadership training!

Bringing Light To Darkness:Pray For Luc

What a joy to see God bringing new life and transformation to least-reached people in Central Africa!

We also need to pray for Luc, the disciple-makers, and the church planters he’s training. We pray that the Holy Spirit will protect them from the temptations around them. That they will be faithful to His calling to reach people with the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Meet Cephas who leads a unique disciple-makers program in Zambia. They train people where they are and send them out as church planters. Cephas leads a discipleship-training program in Zambia, affiliated with Global Disciples. For five years, he’s been equipping Zambian believers to make disciples and plant churches there, and in neighboring countries too.

At a recent gathering, Cephas shared the uniqueness of the training program as his cluster of churches operates it. “We have a mobile school,” Cephas said. “We move and go out to train people where they are. And then send them out as church planters. They don’t graduate until they have planted a church!” What would happen if a Bible school or seminary here in Canada required students to plant a church in order to graduate?

Global Disciples And Disciple-Makers

Like so many places where Global Disciples training programs continue, Cephas and the disciple-makers he trains face many challenges. He told me about a recent outreach in northern Zambia. It’s a place that is a stronghold for witchcraft. “We went to this isolated place,” he said, “on an ungraded gravel road, we traveled for three hundred kilometers, and it took us all day and all night. You take extra tires along—and we blew out three of them on the way! ”

He and his team put in hours of preaching and sharing the Gospel with the community. They were also able to use the local radio. And every day, many people came to ask about salvation, and for prayer for healing and deliverance. “Many people are coming to know Jesus,” Cephas reported. And they’re seeing spiritual fruit from their ministry.

Cephas said, “Last year, we started no less than 15 churches. And each of them has more than 50 people in the fellowship. We are also in Congo, in two towns with two churches. And now we are going to move into Mozambique.”
