God is moving all over the world.

He’s empowering people in many places, using hundreds of languages, to reach those in need of the life-changing message of the Gospel.

At Global Disciples, we’re privileged to serve those taking the Good News among least-reached people.

Yet, it’s hard work. It comes at a price.

Those taking the light of Jesus Christ into places where spiritual darkness has been firmly entrenched for thousands of years will often do so at a great personal cost.

Recently, several program directors in South Asia reflected on the difficulty of sharing the Gospel and the opposition that they face as they seek to equip other followers of Jesus as disciples and church planters.

Pastor D* said, “In my area, there is tension, and conflict with the Buddhists.

Already seven pastors or evangelists have left because it is so difficult. I worry for the new believers who may not know how to stand in their faith.”

Pastor D explained that sometimes the local Buddhist monks would create trouble. When a visiting evangelist came to share the Gospel, he was arrested and put in jail, maybe for up to two years.

Pastor D led an outreach and said, “In the evening, we showed the Jesus film in their language. But some officials came and gave us a hard time, so we didn’t have the freedom to share more. Many village leaders don’t like Christians. From time to time, the officials take us for questioning, and it’s difficult work.”

Another pastor works among a people group that has resisted the Gospel.

He said, “There are many villages where there are no Christians. And if someone becomes a Christian, the local village leaders take all their belongings—everything! So, it’s very hard for them to consider putting their faith in Jesus. Pray for these villages and this people group.”

Reaching the least-reached with the Good News of Jesus is hard work. It comes at a price.

But God has faithful servants around the world who are willing to pay the price, and fulfill His mission, no matter what difficulties they face. Praise God!

A few years ago, God opened the door for Global Disciples to provide training for church clusters in the nation of Chad, in North Africa.

While only about 56 percent of Chadians claim to be Muslim, Islam is the dominant influence in government and trade.

Of the 148 people groups in Chad, nearly two-thirds of them are unreached with the Gospel.

It was exciting to see this door open.

And God has brought multiplication, good local leadership, and opportunities to reach the least-reached. Recently, the training directors for Chad and neighboring Niger got together an Annual Equipping Event and shared their stories.

A director named Pascal talked about the first training program. He said, “We had 14 participants and during the outreach, over 400 people came to faith in Christ, and we planted 6 churches.”

But he found the second year more challenging.

Another 14 participants were registered but only 6 showed up for the training. Pascal says, “This was not ideal but my brothers in the Lord encouraged me to start anyway.” And when it came time for outreach, Pascal said, “The Lord guided us to different areas, and with these six people, we saw 540 people turn to Christ and three churches that were birthed. We baptized many…and it was all because of the transformed lives of these six people!” Praise God!

Bekou also directs a discipleship-mission program. He said, “In our second year, we had thirteen complete the training and we went to the south of Chad for outreach. It was evident that many people were in need of the Word of God. During the outreach, more than 500 people placed their faith in Jesus Christ.”

Bekou said, “We also shared the Gospel with one imam—a local Muslim leader—and he responded by asking us to plant a church in his region! When I witnessed this, I realized this is no time to be shy. We must be full of courage and share the Gospel always!”

Have courage, share the Gospel—that’s true for each of us. And let’s rejoice and pray for God’s continued work in the nation of Chad.

A leader in his large Angolan church, Ezra enjoyed a fulfilling ministry, a home with good schools for his children, and a decent income. With help from Global Disciples, he was also equipped to develop leadership training for local believers.

Ezra studied the leadership material at home too, with his wife and children. During a lesson on leadership and the family, God spoke to Ezra’s heart.

He said, “As we were praying, God told me I couldn’t continue as a leader in a big congregation when souls were perishing in the least-reached place of my nation. God even gave me the name of a village He wanted to send me to!”

He was shocked – this would change everything in his life! He shared this message with his wife….and to his surprise, she agreed!

“I told my relatives too,” Ezra said, “and everyone was against this idea. Why would I leave a good place, a good salary, and take my family off to a place where I don’t know anyone?”

Then he told his church leaders. They released him from his position and while they stayed in fellowship, they would no longer support him financially. It was a test of obedience and commitment, but with his family, Ezra trusted the God who called him and moved to the village God directed him to.

As his family settled into their new surroundings, they started a small fellowship in their home. And as Ezra began sharing the Gospel, God did His work.

One example, of God’s work, was Aldo. He was a drug addict, and part of a gang responsible for killing several people. Influence by drugs, Aldo got into a fight with his own nephew and with a machete in his hand, threatened to cut off his head! Nobody had the courage to step in and stop him.

But as he witnessed this, Ezra started to pray. He boldly went up to Aldo and begged him to drop the machete. Aldo did.

“I went back to Aldo a few days later,” Ezra said, “when he was no longer under the influence of drugs and I shared the Gospel with him. He accepted Christ and was baptized several months ago.”

Many other young people in the community saw God transform Aldo’s life and they also accepted Christ.

The Lord continues to honor Ezra’s obedience. The family fellowship has grown in a church plant with 50 adults and many children as the church continues to share the gospel.

More than half the adults work in local government and they’re people of influence in the community. “We have been there almost two years,” Ezra shared, “and the Lord has done wonderful things!”

We often talk about God’s faithfulness in leading, guiding, and providing for the work of mission. And His faithfulness to those he calls to take the Gospel to the least-reached.

These stories build our faith and our trust in Him.

The testimonies of those who reflect God’s faithfulness through their lives and ministry is an encouragement to us all. It’s easy to see they are children of the Father, because they follow His example by being faithful to Him, to His calling, and to His mission.

Those stories can inspire us to be faithful too.

Shaan has one of those testimonies.

He currently directs a discipleship-mission program, launched with the help of Global Disciples, in South Asia. He’s in a setting where followers of Jesus are very much the minority and often face tremendous opposition.

“When I came to faith in Jesus Christ,” Shaan said, “I was the first person in my village to accept Him as my Savior.

But this was unacceptable to my people.

I was physically tortured, and the villagers even threatened to kill me.”

Yet despite these challenges, Shaan remained faithful to the Lord and sought to bring even more people to faith in Jesus.

“Thirteen people came to the Lord from my village,” he said, “And in the neighboring villages. And after this, persecution became even more severe for the church members.”

Even today, living in his community is very difficult. Often the local shops will refuse to let him or his family buy the groceries they need, so it means traveling a long way to another community where they don’t know him and won’t refuse his business.

Shaan sees these obstacles as an opportunity to live in faithfulness.

He’s training others to be faithful disciples who are willing to share the Gospel in whatever the place or circumstances that God will lead them to. And his heart goes out to his own neighbors and community who need to know Jesus who can give them new, abundant, and eternal life.

A few years ago, Kofi was ready to give up.

He is a church leader in Ethiopia. Unfortunately, he found himself discouraged and frustrated with his ministry. He was only seeing limited results.

“I was about to leave all my ministry engagements,” he said.

“And then I came to a Global Disciples Directors training.”

The Lord began to move in Kofi’s heart and mind, changing his attitude and renewing his call to reach others with the Gospel.

Kofi said, “I shared my situation with one of the Global Disciples staff members, and he prayed for me. My life and my attitude changed; I was strengthened to serve the Lord for the rest of my life.”

Kofi returned to his church responsibilities renewed in mind and spirit. And he began a discipleship-mission training program with the help of Global Disciples. As he trains and sends out disciple-makers and church planters, he sees God moving others’ hearts too.

‘This year, 99 people came to salvation in Christ,” Kofi said. “We have baptized 77 of them, with more to come. Since we began, more than 450 people have received Jesus as their personal Savior and Lord. And we have planted 16 new fellowships of believers!”

What joy for Kofi—and for us—to see the change in his life and in the lives of so many others.

On the other side of Ethiopia, Yonas is also seeing God at work. He leads a discipleship- mission training with a focus on reaching a Muslim-dominated region. It’s just the second year of the program—Yonas reported that over two thousand people heard the Gospel of Jesus. He said, “Two hundred and six accepted Jesus as Savior and Lord, and 65 of them have been baptized so far.”

He also saw God heal a prominent Muslim, known by many people in that region. This demonstration of God’s power and compassion has opened doors, and as a result, many Muslims are coming to faith in Jesus.

Praise God for touching the hearts of these men and empowering them to equip and send out disciples of Jesus who are multiplying disciples—not only in Ethiopia but around the world.

Micah is a training director in Nigeria that was trained in Global Disciple’s Discipleship-mission training.

He is seeing God doing great work in his life, and through those he’s training to make disciples and plant churches among least-reached people.

When Micah shared his experience, he said, “At director’s training, the topic of intimacy with God was important to me. God began to work in my life in a new way. I wanted walk with Him at a new level. He called me to do a prayer walk around the streets in our Muslim neighborhood, and He wants to do something there.”

As Micah started a local discipleship-mission training program with his church cluster, he saw the lesson on intimacy with God impact others as well.

“It has fueled a great outreach,” he said. “One man was so impacted, he went out and planted four churches. He is 54 years old; God has called him to spend the rest of his life for Jesus!”

A woman who participated in the training found new boldness. Micah said, “She was generally shy about speaking to people, but these lessons changed her.”

She found the courage to share the Gospel with a family member involved in a traditional religion.

The man planned to attend a nighttime ritual across a river, but this woman prayed for God to keep him from that. When it was time to cross the river—he couldn’t do it. Another time, he slept through the night—and missed the ritual again!

Micah said, “He’s not a believer in Jesus yet, but when he comes to Christ, he will be able to influence many others.”

Micah found his passion for mission has increased. And as he’s had the opportunity to train others, and engage in sharing the Gospel, it has fueled his walk with God.

“It all comes back to intimacy with Jesus,” Micah said. “When you are a friend of Jesus, it becomes easy to bring other people to Him.”

Micah’s on to something. At its heart, sharing the Good News is really about introducing people to your friend Jesus. And that’s something any of us can do today.

One Indian Hindu man’s choice to follow Jesus led to others to His “living water”. Discover what happened next. Nagu is a young farmer in rural India, born and brought up as a Hindu.

One day, he met several followers of Christ, sent out from a Global Disciples partner program to share the Gospel.

Nagu’s heart was touched.He quickly accepted Jesus Christ as His Savior.

He then invited the disciple-makers to stay in his home while they continued their outreach in the area.

Nagu’s choice to follow Jesus and host these Christians was not popular with his neighbors. They began persecuting and harassing him. They kept him from coming into the village or selling his farm produce at the market. He was forced to take it some distance to another town to sell.

Even more devastating, his access to the village water was cut off. He couldn’t get water to drink, wash, and more importantly, water his crops. But Nagu refused to give up on his faith in Jesus.

Nagu shared this need with the young people who had first told him about Jesus and they agreed to pray that God would provide a solution to his need.

What Nagu needed was a well.

He had no money to hire a well-digging company or rent any equipment to do it himself. He would have to dig by hand. In the hard ground in his area, it’s usually 400-500 feet down before one strikes water.

But Nagu started digging. He and his family prayed and dug. The disciple-makers prayed too.

At about 8 feet, Nagu hit water!

God miraculously answered his prayer. Impossible gave way to Gods miraculous power!

The risks are still high, however. Nagu knows that being baptized as a follower of Jesus puts his life on the line but he’s also seen God work powerfully on behalf of those who call on Him.

Now he has a wonderful testimony to share with others still waiting to hear the Good News!

For over a hundred years, a region in Chad had not heard the Gospel. Discover how the light of Jesus has broken a century of darkness.I

n the early 1900s, a region of Chad was so devastated by a tribal ruler that upon his death, the people decided to take action. To ensure no one would ever be able to attack their homeland again, they chose to “fortify” the area with black magic and rituals, burying talismans and charms, and casting spells.

It seemed to work.

For a hundred years, no outsiders ever managed to settle in the area or achieve anything tangible.

When the government came to develop any kind of infrastructure—including hospitals or schools—the projects would fail. Even their vehicles would mysteriously develop problems and break down!

There was no church in this vast region. Any missionaries who came found it impossible to evangelize or minister among these people.

God put this region on the heart of Madji and a team of disciple-makers, trained in one of Global Disciples’ first partner programs in Chad.

They heard about the difficulties and the aggressive people who resisted outsiders. Yet they believed God was sending them.

Madji said, “We prayed for several days first. We prayed that the spiritual chains of darkness would be broken in the name of Jesus, even before we went to visit that place.”

The Lord heard and answered their prayers.

Soon after Madji and the disciple-makers arrived, and began sharing the Gospel, two powerful chiefs gave their lives to Christ!

“The place opened up and people were no longer so hostile,” Madji reported. “Two days after our outreach started, there was a conflict between the farmers and the cattlemen. We fasted and prayed for this situation, and God resolved it.”

Madji and his team saw the Lord work a miracle as the chains of spiritual bondage were broken and old curses ended.

And for the first time in history, the Body of Christ was present and growing.

In fact, more than 150 people came to faith in Jesus in one village, and 42 more in another.

By the time they concluded their outreach, Madji said, “We planted three churches with 558 souls fellowshipping!”

A century of darkness and bondage came to an end, and while there is much room for growth, the light of Jesus Christ now shines through His people in a previously unreached part of Chad.

“If you want to do ministry, you cannot do other work! If you want to preach or evangelize, you must only do that! Not business too.”

Over and over, Saji heard this message from his pastor who, like many church leaders in India, believed that business and ministry don’t mix. You can’t do both the “sacred” and the “secular”.

But Saji struggled with this.

He was in his late 20s and had trained as an engineer.

God had given him a heart to share the Gospel with least-reached people. His family didn’t have money; his father was only a day laborer and they lived in poverty. His education had given him better job opportunities but the call to ministry left him feeling conflicted.

“One of my pastors said if I wanted to do ministry, I must leave everything else,” Saji said. So he resigned to minister through his church, but he had no means of support. He told his family nothing about his struggles because he feared his choice would offend them. “I didn’t have a single rupee for my personal use,” he said. “I relied on my friends to feed me and shelter me.”

One day, he was invited to a home group. There he met a young man who invited Saji to a small business training started with the help of Global Disciples.

“The very next month, I attended the small business training,” Saji reported. “It made me strong and gave me the courage to move forward. I learned many things about work and ministry, about Paul’s ministry and Peter’s ministry. I decided I could do any work at the same time as God’s work!”

Saji quickly caught on that you can do both ministry and business! Life, ministry, and work or business can be integrated for the glory of God and to reach others with the Good News.

Saji started a cell phone servicing business and used it to begin sharing the Gospel in a community where most people had little understanding of Jesus Christ. Within a year, God gave him success in both ministry and business.

“We now have 25 people worshipping every Sunday and an outreach to children. We have started three cell groups in this village. And we recently built a small worship center.”

Saji was able to marry since he now had a means of support. His relationship with his family was restored; they are happy to see how God led and provided for him. Saji said, “I am very happy with my work and ministry. I thank God for sending Global Disciples because they trained me and encouraged me.”

Do you trust God in His Words?

Jesus said, “Go into all the world and preach the Gospel to all creation.”

For Kam and for a group of disciple-makers in Myanmar, following that directive has led to open doors, new churches, and transformed lives.

Kam leads a discipleship-mission training program, launched through Global Disciples with your help.

He explained how they saw the Holy Spirit do His transforming work. “Even though we went empty-handed, God helped us according to His Word. His guiding hand is sufficient for us—He inspired us through His Word. In fact, the Holy Spirit transformed the lives of many people.”

Kam’s teams went out to villages and communities among the hill people, mostly farmers. They went house to house, and talked face to face, praying for the sick and lending a hand to orphans and widows. Many were miraculously healed. And broken families were restored.

Kam described one family as “totally broken.” He said, “We prayed for them; and we helped them ask forgiveness of each other for their faults against one another. They have renewed their relationships and now live in a sweet Christian home.”

Another husband and wife both gave their lives to Christ through this outreach, along with many more who put their faith in Jesus. “It’s not our work,” Kam said, “it is God’s work in the midst of us.”

The few Christians in this region have no pastors or elders to guide them. The occasional evangelist comes to preach the Gospel but as Kam put it “no one has been taking care of their spiritual life.”

He said, “By the power of the Holy Spirit, God transformed the lives of men and women who’d been born again but were not pursuing a life in Christ.” The disciple-makers were able to share the Word of God more deeply with them, to help nurture spiritual growth.

The disciple-makers even reached out to several local Buddhist monks. “They were interested in the Word of God,” Kam said. “So, we gave them the Holy Bible, and had good fellowship and meals with them.”

For the local church, and those Kam continues to train, the mission continues. Recently they trained and sent out ten church planters to another unreached people group.

“The Holy Spirit moved in their hearts, and they were willing to obey the Word of God, to make disciples, and to plant churches in their communities,” he said. “I hope this will really be fruitful for His glory. Blessed be the name of the Lord!”
